With 713, you can choose BA and get a certificate good for more exotic destinations, like Bucharest. You do NOT get miles. Check with BA for the destinations they will fly you to - I found it generally includes pretty much anywhere Marriott has a hotel and then some. Click on awards from their program because their freq flyer club administers the Marriott award. They allow only a stopover in London and/or an open jaw. I have SFO to Belgrade, open, depart Bucharest, stopover London. Once upon a time...you could get two stops out and two back. Those days are definitely gone. BA is actually a really good reason to accumulate miles in American instead of United. Flying BA into the hinterlands of Europe and Africa is much cheaper in freq flyer miles than using Lufthansa.
