You are correct. Last Sunday I traveled IAD-ORD with a relative of mine who requires the use of a wheelchair for longer distances (like IAD-- no wheelchair needed in ORD, but I digress). I began to head toward the escalators down to the new screening level, but the wheelchair pusher told me to follow her because they use a special screening checkpoint. She took us down an elevator and right to the Diamond Lane. Another wheelchair joined us in the elevator; we were behind two wheelchairs in line, and two wheelchairs got in line behind us in short order.

The TDC examined the security features of my NEXUS card in detail (obviously he was fascinated by them-- they are sort of nifty-- he wasn't examining them to verify the validity of the ID, though.) After 45 seconds, he asked me if I had an ID on me. I told him that that is my ID. He asked me what it is, and I told him that it is a trusted traveler credential like SENTRI and FAST. He explained to me that it is only valid as a travel card and not as ID. I said that it is on the TSA's list of acceptable ID's. He said that he didn't keep the list up there with him. Because I was not traveling alone, I showed him my passport card (which he examined for 6 seconds) and he was satisfied. He remarked that that is a valid ID. Complaint emailed since I don't escalate when traveling with others as a policy.

Though the line was backed up a bit, they found time for random continuous, though not for anyone in my party, luckily. About 1 in 4.

That checkpoint sucks.
