Best Mileage Program for mid-tier (50K)
I am looking to see what people's opinions are on different mileage programs as far as mid-tier is concerned. I used to be Platinum on Delta for many years and enjoyed unlimited and readily available upgrades, which was the main reason for me switching to them from United.
This year I was struggling to make 75K status and had to do lots of unnecessary flying just to get there and then late in the year Delta slaps us in the face with the new Diamond Medallion, which would pretty much devalue Platinum Status. It requires now 125K to be highest tier member to enjoy priority status for upgrades, which for me is mission impossible. To make matters worse DL is offering double MQMs for select chosen members (to probably bump them to Diamond) and had I know lots of ppl probably will make it which will be worthless for me to be struggling to make Platinum and paying out of my pocket for flights next year.
So, I am looking to see what people think about other programs, it's reasonable for me to fly 50K a year and more attainable. Would you still stay with DL and try to make Platinum or switch?
I know UA is pretty good for middle tier - Premier Executive. Gives you economy plus and international bus class line access (which on Delta requires Platinum). Of course no unlimited upgrades here, but still economy plus is better than regular economy which I will have to fly much more often now. Are their aircrafts well equipped, I have to admit I've been enjoying that Delta has entertainment system in each seat.
What about AA program for their middle tier?
I am interested in your personal experiences with different airlines for mid-tier, how do they treat you if you are not the highest tier member and especially if you've been switching between diff airlines or have status on more than one.
Thanks!
