Just like WN and B6 are no cheaper in the U.S.
Avoid Jetstar like the plague. Gestapo-like carry on restrictions and extortionate luggage charges.
And Virgin Blue has gotten pretty bad lately. They won't accept a baggage interline to/from UA anymore, have a limit of 20kg for ONE bag with the second at $10/kg (yikes!) and pretty lousy service.
QF will take the UA interlines (they will retag inbound to CNS at SYD), will accept whatever UA has allowed you on free with from the US, and overall are much better for the extra $10 or so the fare will cost.
