An even cheaper way is to get the new United Mileage Plus Chase credit card that offers economy plus access. It is 275 / year and gets you up to 5000 EQMs. So you are that much closer to elite.

I think US MC also allows you better seats, but you have to check with US.

Lastly Delta Reserve also does so but at 450$ a year.

Even if your company flies you on 2 airlines, getting status on e.g., UA and DL and doing a Gold challenge every 2 years on AA should be enough to cover most airlines most of the time.
