I looked on some past MR statements to see if I could be more specific. However; I must have gotten rid of any that pertain.
As I recall once I turned in an unused voucher for a rental car. It was part of an air/hotel/car award. (This may have been when a car for 7 days was indluded in the award before they changed it to 25% off Hertz) MR credited my account for point value of car award alone. I would think they would take back the hotel portion which would net 125K returned to your account.
Anyone needing to return part of an award should call MR customer service and see just how it works. Then post for us what MR did for you.
Do we ever have Marriott lurkers on this board? Starwood has a couple who readily answer questions and try to resolve FT'rs problems.
