Go into the award booking engine. If there are seats available in the lower (saver) mileage bucket, then there probably are seats available for upgrade.

As a silver, it was highly unusual for me to be upgraded at all. Not saying you won't, but I'd plan for the worst, an it could be a pleasant surprise.
