I'm always polite with them, even when I am complaining. My normal procedure is to go through the processes and minimize any conversation aside from a hello, good (time of day), thank you, and please ..if I must ask for something..

When I have a complaint or ask for a supervisor, I do so in a calm and polite manner. The funny thing is it often upsets the TSO. I've even had TSO's make remarks in an attempt to agitate me, but when I respond politely it's funny to see the looks on their faces.

It's always best to be assertive and kill them with kindness.

As much as I hate the TSA, I'm always polite. As a general rule, most TSAers are polite. There are some rouge ones, power trippers, and those making up crap on the spot, but my problem is more with TSA management/policy than the front line employees.

That said, I have seen other passengers throw shoes, drop the F bomb, and yell at the TSO's.
