Last year, my mother signed up for the Marriott Rewards Visa (member get a member). She won't be using any of the points.

For the sake of argument, let's say she earns 5,000 points. Can she request an upgrade certificate, at say, a Residence Inn and then transfer it to me?

I believe the answer is no but I would appreciate any help on this one. TIA.
