BBB,
In the States it is a bit different... low-costs have brand new aircraft (WS, B6), offer free snacks (WS, B6), no not charge for checked baggage (WS, B6), have modern, dedicated Terminals (B6 at JFK T5, WS at LUV) and even have FFP's. Legacy carriers have old, dirty aircraft, charge for any piece of baggage - nothing is free (actually my BMI Gold card rescues me^), do not offer anything to eat - not even snacks; I know what I say - I fly with US Airways quite frequently.
And B6 has lots of flights ex JFK with travel time of 90 minutes or less - and IMO these still have PTV's with free DIRECTV and Satellite Radio
PS. I am from Europe
Maybe when BA shorthaul ops become pure LCC, they'll get PTVs and the like

Until then, we'll have to make use of the complimentary booze to entertain ourselves.
