Well you have the best deal now - staying at the resort when you want, without forking over the $15k-$22k upfront charge they want. As a paying guest you're treated like a regular hotel guest - but wait, buy a week and what do you get? 1- in addition to the upfront charge, an annual assessment that probably runs around $700 (or $100 per night). 2- No maid service when you stay - yes that's right, if you want a daily "tidy" or full maid service you'll pay an extra $10-25 per day (read the brochure in your room). So right off the bat, you're paying the gigantic upfront charge, plus $125 or so per night to stay. Yes, there are tax benefits, but I don't know how one justifies the cost - I love the Vacation Club properties, but I just stay and pay when I want. Oh, and if you buy, be sure to call for your week the minute you can - or I'be heard you're shut out (especially if you want a holiday week). P.S. - who cares about the whole trade nonsense. Keep your money, and you don't need to worry about trading or wasting your week. If you do the math or how much Marriott is charging for a unit per year (i.e. the sales price times 52 weeks) the numbers are staggering. This, before they grab their management and other fees.
