Ritz Carlton certificate redemption question- "throwaway ticketing"

Hey all,

Got a question about redeeming my points for an RC award. I'll be in Istanbul for 4 nights and will be needing 2 rooms. I only have enough points to get one of the rooms for free. I noticed that it's cheaper (in points) for me to get a 5 night certificate (150k on a PointsSaver) award than it is to redeem for a 3 night and a 1 night (160k). I called RC reservations and asked if its possible to "transfer" the remaining night on the 5 night certificate to the 2nd room and was told its not possible. She did suggest just redeeming for the 5 night cert to save on the points and essentially throw away the last night. Has anybody done this before and encountered any problems?

I can't imagine the hotel would have much of a problem as it would free up a room that they've already received revenue for. I just know that throwaway ticketing is a big no-no in the airline world and was wondering if the same problems arise in hotels. Additionally, I think it may be worth a shot to ask the hotel directly at check-in if they wouldn't mind transferring the free night to the 2nd room since I have nothing to lose at that point. Any advice or comments?
