which they have done quite specatacularly moving availability from about GBP700K plus 40,000 air miles on just about any day at 3 weeks notice until August - to GBP4K plus ...if you can get a ticket now.

The situation has been exacerbated by other airlines reducing capacity on the route and slightly further back the demise of Oasis.

It is BA's perogative to decide whether it is the right commercial move.

But you do have choices if you are transiting. Even Air France fly direct to Guangzhou (CAN - Canton). Maybe Hong Kong was/is just the airline equivalent of Crewe.
