Stayed at Westin St. John's VI in 2006. Excellent property for what the OP wants to do. Try to get upgraded to one of the rooms on the beach. You will be very satisfied.
+1 - stayed there in 2008 - great restaurants nearby, and a darn good "secret" happy hour @ the pool bar @ 4:00. And if you are into snorkeling (try it it's cool) - one of the best area in the world.
