Me and my wife had managed to do so. We had exit seats and my wife was ill that day (just enough so she couldn't perform exit row duties).
So we approached the GA and told her (this was at SFO) and she looked at her screen and called a couple of people and they agreed. She didn't switch the seat assignments we just had an understanding who will sit where.
