Recently had the same issue in HKG (I am AAExP)...guest (me) not allowed unless travelling on OW itinerary...However, I threatened to allow my children (who have status) in without me but with only my wife supervising them....(3 young children, 1 adult to control them) and I pointed out some likely problems with this arrangement....and they allowed me in anyway Best of luck....
