Yes - twice. Once when living in Europe, once when living in US. In both cases I could pinpoint how it occurred. But I see it very differently. If my credit / debit card is used fraudulently, I have a cast-iron, 100% guarantee that I'm going to get my money back. I might be asked a few questions to prove this, in the case of a debit card, but essentially I am fully insured. This takes all of the emotion out of it for me. Compare this with someone breaking into my house, which I would consider a highly intrusive, emotionally tough experience, even if you have insurance and can replace the property / money stolen.
So overall - no, I don't think it's the same at all
