And if that is true, that reinforces my point. If I'm not going to squander 500K RDMs per year on domestic upgrades, someone with only 250K RDMs isn't going to either.

FWIW, I just checked my performance from Oct 16 2008 to Oct 16 2009, and it was "only" 400K. It is down somewhat because I've given up using the Chase card for international trips and switched to SPG AMEX. Also, one of the chain hotels that I'd normally stay at and earn M+ miles now wants a deposit, and so I stay at an indepedent that doesn't earn miles.

The math is simple though: 250K RDMs from flying UA/*A. (125k BIS times 2 for the 100% RDM bonus) 150K RDMs from credit cards (travel a lot for business, spend a lot for business, expense a lot for business).

So I doubt I accrue more than 95% of 1K FTers, and based on posts, I think 1Ks are more than 5% of FTers on this forum.
