I sure hope they don't change the free upgrade program. I'm tired of toying with the occassional e500's and CR1's. It's much simpler to upgrade those that fly more. I fly enough - frequently and probably send a lot of good revenue to United. This is a good partnership with their customers and I for one fully embrace it.
I really hope they don't watter this down with all kinds of exceptions and "gimmicks" and some how re-introduce upgrade instruments that I would then have to deal with. My feeling is that E+ is good, I'll fly it without hesitation. I don't like traditional coach seats on any of the other U.S. carriers. If I can get a decent amount of upgrades, space available this is great and quite a perk. If I'm flying the family to Disneyland, then I'll use miles or money to buy an upgrade - which hopefully is more available because the upgrade instrument leaches aren't taking up seats.
All in all, it's a perfect arrangement. Yes if you are an upgrade leach, I'm sure it's a huge tragedy. But I'm just an average joe flyer, and this is a nice simple approach that works. If I was trying to "take" United for all I could, sure I'd be in your camp, but come on. Give them a break and the average joe who's on a 100 flights a year. This is fair to everyone.
