It has been my experience that the miles will be deducted sometime after you check-in or immediately after you complete the first leg of your flight.

Back again. So I just upgraded my fare class to a class K so I could use my miles to upgrade to First class. The Delta representative processed both the change in fare and the upgrade. The problem is, that the miles have not been processed out of my account, and the representative claims that this will be done at the airport. (I was going to wait to upgrade both legs as im a few thousand miles short) but she reassured me that as long as I have the miles by the time I go to the airport, I'll be fine.
Now I am a little worried about leaving it till I go to the airport and then finding out ive been bumped back to coach!
If it helps it says im booked into Z class and says im assigned a seat.
Whats yalls advice?
