Currently a holder of the BMI Amex, which for UK use is great.

However I shall be spending 6 months working in Aus. I expect to incur some not inconsequential business expenses - laptop, software, flights, maybe hotels...

I originally thought I'd stick these on my BMI card. However with the 2.75% foreign transaction fee, and AUD -> USD -> GBP with Amex rates (IMHO not the best), I'm eroding the value of the points somewhat. Added to that that most FF CC plans in Aus appear to award 1 mile per AUD, which is close to 2 miles per GBP, I might need to get a card in Aus.

Currently I'm in three programs, BA (1W), BMI (*A), Continental (ST, soon *A). Quantas & Virgin Blue look popular, but Quantas would be another 1W carrier. Ideally I want points I can redeem not just in Australasia.

Recommendations?
