That would be interesting. I strongly suspect that you're right about the decrease in numbers of 1Ks, in any case; and I certainly don't think that UA would be stupid enough to introduce a plan like this while significantly increasing the number of 1Ks, which would only lead to massive dissatisfaction when most of them failed to upgrade.

Will they just dissappear? Will they convert to miles, even those who weren't grandfathered a couple years back upon expiration they convert to RDM?

My impression is that it isn't quite clear, but there's definitely no mention of them converting to miles if not already grandfathered. The best I've been able to infer from what UA have said so far is that they will simply disappear. It's quite possible I've missed something though!
