It was EWR to SFO.
I booked the ticket over a month in advance. Since I relocated from Chicago to NJ and switched primarily flying UA to CO, I can say this happens more than I would have expected it to happen, but I think it again comes back to expectations. I should also mention that on the EWR-SFO segment I was in 20's for upgrade list and I was 5-ish on the SFO-EWR segment.

Until this announcement I was going to go back to UA and connect on all of my flights and dump CO for the rest of year. I have already made Gold for next year and I have a couple of international flights upcoming (IMHO:UA's premium intl product is so much better than CO). I think they both have pros and cons; too me dom E+ is a HUGE reason to fly UA, I am 6'2" and the extra room that CO does not have is painful.
On a bright note, I did have one of the new 737-900ER's with directv, so that made it better, but still pretty bad.
