And your math is off as well, even before that fact. If they are no longer earning e500s then they don't go home with 245K at the end of the year since they don't have e500s to convert anymore.

Moreover, the assumption that the passenger in question must cash in the 120K miles is a stretch. As has been noted here many times, most elites apparently don't understand the certificates anyways so they aren't going to notice them going missing.
What are you talking about? The e500s do convert to miles if don't use them - that's a fact. And, once the CR-1s are gone, the only way to upgrade family members not traveling with you is to use miles. So in effect a 1K's mileage earnings on a yearly basis net of the above, will come down drastically.

Here is something I haven't thought of. Are all e500s in my bank going to Magically disappear when UDU starts?

They will still be useful as tools to upgrade PS, so it would seem unfair for UA to take them away before they expire.
