What you describe is a perfectly normal LH Y experience follow by an average FRA exposure. You can maximise the experience by missing the connection in FRA and then try to see an unhelpful agent at a transfer desk. To AMS that would usually mean that the train would be ways faster than beg for the mercy and availability of an agent
