Well, your welcome, although I get the sense that maybe you want to take that back...
Just to reiterate, my ticket was bought from DL on DL ticket stock and included one flight that was DL codeshare on AF metal.
I get the feeling that each possible permutation of this works out differently.
The KLM.com trick is a good one though.

i've been trying to check my seat assignments on my upcoming iah-cdg af flight (dl codeshare) and had no luck, of course, until i tried your trick of deleting the last digit. i'd tried deleting the first with no success.
edited to add--well, at least i now have my af record locator. i still can't select seats--get an error message on af. i called, and the not terribly friendly af agent said she couldn't help, i should try delta.
delta has my seats noted as 39a,c but those seats show as
available on the af seat map. i'm not feeling very confident about this.
okay, one more edit--thanks to another thread, i went to the KLM site and was able to select my seats from klm.com. while i'm happy to have seats, that took a lot more work than it should have. sheesh.
if not for flyertalk, i'd still be muddling along. yay, ft!
