Thank you for your response. That was very well written and I will try to make some more sense of my previous post. I do not normally get frustrated like this, I was having a more difficult than normal day so that did probably play some role in the matter.
As for why I am switching, I did not clarify what I meant earlier. I am switching for the remainder of this year. Having already received Plat status for the next 2 years (rollover nights), I was thinking of switching to Starwood already in order to maintain status there. The only reason I had not done so was because I liked the Marriott property I am staying at now slightly better. Overall, I was already almost at the point of switching so something even this small just helped me to make that decision.
My experience with Marriott has been fantasic until this one, very small exception. I will probably go back sometime in the future.
