It is definitely what I expected to see happen. I don't fault some folks for being or upset by this move.
With good reason.
Lower tier elites on hub-hub trunk routes are going to see their upgrade rates drop because of this.
Top tier elites who are used to earning CR-1s to upgrade companions or to confirm upgrades in advance are going to lose out on those, too. Otherwise they win.
The loss of CR-1s and having to use miles instead is going to hurt. A lot.
