SPG Plat vs. Gold Passport Diamond. Which one is better?
As you can tell from my FT handle, I am a loyal member of the SPG program. After reading some posts in the Freddie Awards thread about GP's great Diamond program (I'm currently GP Platinum)and experiencing GP's great customer service (I gave my Freddie vote to Hyatt in the customer-service category), I'm thinking of asking for a comp based on my SPG Platinum status. If I were comped into Diamond tier, it would be my intention to transfer more/all of my business to Hyatt. However, I'm just a leisure traveler, and it's hard enough for me to rack up the 25 stays needed for top tier in one program, so requesting the comp would mean that I'd have to abandon SPG. I have reservations about going through with this, as Hyatt does not even come close to SPG when it comes to award redemptions, it does not have as many desirable properties as Starwood IMO (the only HR I like is Kauai; I prefer PHs, of which there are too few), and Starwood wins the Freddie year after year (can so many voters be wrong?). I'm seeking advice from those of you who have been both GP Diamond and SPG Platinum as to which program is better in all areas, not just customer service. SPG has been quite good to me, and the participation of the Starwood Lurker on FT implies that someone at Starwood cares about the elite-member experience.
I apologize if there was a previous thread on this query which I should've searched for first. Forgive me ... I'm a newbie.
