The most bizarre rant I have ever witnessed was actually directed towards me when I was night manager at a Four Seasons hotel.

Let me start by mentioning the front desk where I worked had beautiful wood paneling behind the desk, lovinging polished every two weeks by a proud gentleman who worked overnights named Rogelio.

It was about 1am when the grumpy businessman walked through the front door. The taxi had just dropped him off and he was in a foul mood. I heard later that he had endured a long day of very unproductive meetings after arriving from the east coast early that morning.

Unfortunately we were oversold that night and having filled all my suites, parlors and twin smoking rooms I had a lovely room waiting for this gentleman at the Ritz Carlton down the road which we would be paying for (cold comfort to a business traveler who's on expenses, but it's what we did).

Upon informing "Mr. Smith" of the situation in my most pleasant and calm voice whilst gesturing to the smiling driver behind him and the limosine running on the drive "Mr. Smith" freaking lost it.

It's like a slow motion scene in my head to this day.

"Mr. Smith" slowly takes the Halliburton briefcase off the marble of the long front desk, turns around and faces the driver and then turns quickly screaming "mother******" at me and hurls the briefcase AT MY HEAD.

Luckily I was fit and agile and was able to dodge the projectile which then smashed through the beautiful paneling behind me. "Mr. Smith" had turned rabid, security had seen the whole thing on camera and the police were on the scene within 5 minutes. I had confiscated his briefcase and retreated to the back office, statements were taken, and instead of the Ritz Carlton he spent the night in the county jail.

He apparently apologized to the GM, who passed it along to me. He agreed to pay a huge sum of money (none of which was passed along to me of course) and never darkened our door again.

Rogelio was sure pis**d off though, and he talked about it until I moved properties.
