Cancelling Chase SW VISA?
I was just billed the annual fee on my Chase SW Visa card, and am thinking about cancelling it (I believe you have 30 days to do so without penalty) and getting a refund of the annual fee. I have used the card as my main credit card in the last year or so and currently have a couple of award vouchers on Southwest and don't really "need" the credits right now. I might consider signing up for another Chase SW card next year sometime, but I currently have another credit card through AMEX that's giving me a better "earning ratio". Questions on this:
1) Would Chase typically offer a retention bonus and if so, what could I expect (I've had the card a couple years and have used it as my main credit card - spending about $1000-1500 a month on it, but I also have a Chase Marriott VISA that I don't use that often - usually only at Marriott's).
2) If I cancel the card now, can I sign up again next year and still get the opening account bonus offered to new customers (i.e. 8 credits)?
3) If I cancel the account, will I still get credit for all purchases made up to the cancellation date (provided the $1200 per credit threshold is reached)? Basically if I have $1300 in award dollars when I cancel, will I still get the 1 credit that is due to me on my last statement?
Thanks!
