Not that long back I had American friends tell me litres would NEVER be used widely or understood in the good ole USA. Pepsi and Coke have decided differently if you go look at Safeway.
Like with litres . . . you Americans are slowly catching up with the rest of the world. And so it will be with carry on.

Amen. As I heard an LH flight attendant say last year, to someone trying to wheel a bag about the size of a refrigerator down the aisle - in crisp, firm, and *final* tones - "sir, if you cannot carry it, it is not carry on".
