Update on the Stanhope

I had my family in NYC this weekend at the Stanhope using FFNs for 2 rooms and had an absolutely fantastic stay.

They gave us two adjoing rooms, one a junior suite, the other was a standard room making the whole thing effectively a 2BR/2BA suite with wet bar and microwave.

The Stanhope underwent a fairly major renovation recently and the beds in our two rooms were new and wonderful-- the high-end Hyatt beds found in Maui, Elliott Seattle, Greenwich, and most of the Asian and newer European properties. The decor is definitely old-fashioned "Empire" style, but the craftsmanship in the hotel (moldings, etc.) is quite beautiful.

Two great things to note: the TVs have normal Time-Warner cable (i.e. tons of channels) which is refreshing, and there is broadband in all rooms for 16.95/24 hours (I think this is acceptable for NYC).

And the service was SUPERB. All smiles, the upgrades were blocked in advance (i.e. didn't have to ask or fight for them), two diamond amenity cards on check-in, two sets of breakfast coupons (continental breakfast or a $16 credit on other items, which is a great deal).

I'm almost reluctant to post this (I kind of want to keep the good experience under wraps just to scare the competition for FFNs away!) but I can't do that in good conscience.

Bottom line -- if I'd paid $300 for this room, I would have walked away a very pleased customer.
