And yes, I can -- and eventually will -- call the property, but this shouldn't be necessary and probably won't get me the written confirmation. I have done this before and been disappointed when I show up and the desk clerk says, "who did you talk to here? It's not in the record."

Telling res should have been enough even without being a diamond. If I do get hassled, then I'll have a SECOND hassle canceling the booking as it's an internet "penalty" booking.
