Is it possible for an American (I have a Canadian passport as well) to travel overland to/from Qatar and UAE via Saudi Arabia? Rather than fly, I would like to take the overland route.

If it is possible, what is the (transit I assume) visa situation? Can I get one in advance?
Are there cabs that will take me from the UAE/Saudi border to the Saudi/Qatar border? Cost?
