I just checked in to the HR Chicago. I did 1-800-checkin and was put in a junior suite - very nice room. At the desk, I was handed my key. I asked where the Regency Club was located.

The agent told me that I had to choose between RC access or my upgraded room - but that I couldn't have both. I thought maybe she was new...but she went to the back and brought out a supervisor. She informed me that, in fact, they offer a "choice" to Diamonds - either upgraded room accommodations or access to the Regency Club, but not both.

I mentioned what's in writing for Diamond Benefits - or what I thought was. On visiting the GP site, I notice the -OR- in the "next best room OR RC room". She also informed me that we would be receiving notice very soon of changes to the Diamond benefits in terms of availability/RC access, etc.

Is this new? Every Hyatt in which I have ever stayed has made an effort to upgrade my room - sometimes to a suite - AND given me either RC access or free continental breakfast. The supervisor assured me that this is not the case. If I wanted to downgrade my room, I could get ACCESS to the club - not a RC room, just access. But, if I wanted my junior suite, no access. After a few minutes of polite conversation, she agreed to give me access.

Anyone else encounter this - or am I just WAY behind the times? I couldn't find any other threads about this particular subject.
