i have an upcoming stay at the hyatt san jose, and with no goldpassport status, what should i expect?</font>
If I am not mistaken from reading biddingfortravel.com, you got this place for $35/night. Did you read the hotel review section there? Since, between this place and Doubletree nearby, I practically live there during weekdays on priceline stay, I will say you will get what you pay for, nothing more. If I got my employer to pay for my stay, I wouldn't stay at any of the Hyatt in south bay. But as $600/month commuter room with maid service, you can do worse.
1) Get a Hyatt Goldpassport account, and do 1-800-Check-in. I am a mere Plat, and twice, to the horror of hotel staff, they upgraded me to larger room at building 7 or 8.(I think they call those Business plan room, with a multi-function (Fax,copier, printer) machine in room. Use the Hyatt confirmation number with 1-800-Checkin.(The one on priceline screen with HY.)
2) The staffs are ok, if a bit understaffed. Checking out on Friday morning took 10-15 minutes of waiting. Because I stay so frequently, a few staff will wave or node at me when I walk by.
3) Rooms are small and restooms are small. Without status, the best you shall ask for is a pool/garden view room in building 2. Building 2 had been remodeled recently. Same small layout, new carpet, wallpaper, painting, etc. No musty odor either. Also try to ask for 2nd floor, so you don't hear people walking above you.
4) One thing used to recommend this property is that you have high speed internet access for free. Just connect RJ45 cable to my laptop and I am ready to surf. Now they charge $10.00 a day. Not worth it. OTOH, since this new policy started, I haven't been charged for local phone call. And I can always connect with my Pacbell dialup account at 48Kbps.
5) Beside the better quality of the resturant, I wouldn't recommend Sainte Claire. The valet parking is expensive. The room is equally small. The restroom even smaller, although better decorated, and with better quality shampoo/soaps. The noise issue is just as bad. I don't recall getting dial-up at better than 28KBps at Sainte Claire.
6) For quick bites, the Ume Chinese resturant at Skyport and North First is ok.
7) The gym is pretty good compare to the rest of the hotel. Superior to both Sainte Claire and Double Tree. The jets at Jacuzi doesn't work very well. The swimming pool is iregulaly shaped.
Enjoy the weirdly placed TVs. Or if you got building 6, the strange device in the shower.(No, it not as perverted as it sounds)
