sxc, I have to disagree. HKG-LHR - last year, I was someone flying to LHR once every month or two and was picking BA every time I was in J (F travel went to CX). Why? Because to me, a flat bed is key. CX was doing the new product roll-out and new J wasn't guaranteed. So I gave 100% of my J business to BA, it was pretty simple to me. Now that CX has their product completely rolled out to LHR I take CX every time, because I have a higher chance of op-up and because I prefer CX's AVOD to BA's. I also like the enhanced privacy of CX's J seat (whereas BA, you have to get the window seat to get the privacy, and the seat jiggles every time your neighbor moves around).

As for the west coast of the US (and NY for that matter, now that CO is joining *A), I think *A is making it pretty clear they're gunning for CX's elite travellers from that HK status match thing. And so if you throw that in, you have CO from EWR, as well as SQ and UA from SFO (and if that rumor about ORD turns out to be true, you have UA from there as well). And UA previously flew LAX-HKG but cancelled it, and they always could roll it out again. UA's new J is actually comfortable, and if CX didn't have the flat bed I actually sometimes even give them some of my business (whereas in the past, I would've avoided UA at absolutely all costs due to the Lazy Boy 1970s style J seat).
