I agree with you, I felt like I was living in Brussels, not just visiting. However, the tram service on the weekends is not dependable, so I ended up walking into the center.
I didn't eat anywhere near the hotel except for the ubiquitous le pain quoditien, which was great for a sit down and take a load off and have a great coffee and sammy.
I can recommend somewhere closer to grand sablon -- le vieux mairie. Very lovely food.
I've been to Brussels twice since my first visit to the Barsey, but my taller half refuses to stay that far out of town. Too bad because I think she would appreciate the quality of the hotel.
