On the baggage check side, I've noticed that KLM/AF changed their SOP regarding an overnight in AMS/CDG about a year or so ago. In the past, I always had to fight at check-in to have the bag sent through to MSP and stress to them that I had a connection (less than 24 hours), not a stopover. They used to claim that I had to retrieve the luggage for security. Now they want to automatically send the bag straight to MSP without asking, even when a separate ticket is involved, although they're good at getting the bag onto my flight, rather then the first one after arrival into AMS. (Since I'm not a morning person, I frequently choose a late day departure from where-ever in Europe or the Mideast, overnight in AMS at my favorite hotel with a late check-out time, and then the last nonstop back to MSP. Much better than a 6 am departure, or the risk of missing one.)
