It's no secret that MPO has been offering a 15% discretionary qualification discount to many of its members this year.

Furthermore, CX has been giving away SL for almost nothing. So to deny a current gold member a SL membership all because of 3k miles would indeed be a crime against customer loyalty.
I agree, and it's not like SL will cost them a lot of money. A business class check-in, luggage, handling, and access to lounge. Not exactly money breaking benefits. They even reduced luggage weight from 32 kg to 23kg for North American travelers.
