Not to be picky, but I think it was originally SET=SHERATON Executive Traveller. It was ultra convenient for all involved when Sheraton folded into the Starwood umbrella and both happened to start with the letter "S."

At that point, the SET moniker was simply maintained. I used Sheraton's old SET program many years before Starwood ever came along.
