I suppose, but the cost of OMW is prohibitive IMO and in my experience, using the Elite telephone number (agree, not available to all), I get through fairly quickly and get dealt with reasonably well even during crazy delays and shutdowns through YYZ, YOW, YHZ, YYT, etc. I've never had the three days till a flight problem, but it could be on account of status.
That is a matter of personal affordability such as those who buy Executive vs. those who buy Latitude to upgrade with SWU at time of booking vs. those bottom feeders who buy Tango Plus to upgrade with SSWU, staying up to 12:01AM to ring in and wait anxiously at the gate for their names to be called.
