At the risk of over generalizing (i.e. some local hotels are great and some foreign run hotels are terrible), flagged properties tend to have the following advantages over their Chinese counterparts at the same star level:
-cleaner facilities (room, bathroom, lobby, other common areas, fitness center, etc)
-more expensive zhuangxiu
-better bedding, facilities, and restaurants
-staff members with exposure to other countries (i.e. English skills abound and top level people have worked overseas)
-much better western food
Is breakfast similar to the 'continental' breakfast we get here ?
Bearing in mind that I'm not a breakfast person in general (nothing impresses me before 9:30a), I find Chinese hotel breakfasts to be particularly unpleasant. Well, I suppose congee and tea are fine, but I digress.
Should I be worried about getting cheated though?
I wouldn't be so worried about that.
Also we are 3 adults. Are the "single" beds for 1 or 2 adults?
Definitely 1 person per bed.
BTW, you might be inclined to conclude from the tone of my comments that I dislike Chinese hotels. Quite the opposite is true, in fact. I usually have no problem staying in local hotels and consider the money saved well worth it. I just don't go to such places expecting a great workout or hamburger.
