Now the story makes sense. Sorry I questioned it. It's the ongoing problem of DL elites getting access to elite phone service when flying NW, and vice versa. The SMS rep should have transferred you properly but once the initial transfer went bad it was probably hopeless. That's probably worth an email to DL.

Fortunately as a legacy NW elite, I know to select "international" when I call DL, even when on a domestic itinerary, for decent service. I don't know that DL elites have any such back door to better service in the NW world. Then again, probably the best strategy is for DL elites to stick to DL metal and NW elites to stick to NW metal until all this is sorted out. That's pretty much what I've done.
