Has anyone recently had a U.S. bank card rejected at a UK ATM because it lacked a chip?

I'll be in the UK next week for the first time since 2007. I've never had a problem in previous visits, but an article this week in the New York Times asserts that ATM and point of sale machines across Europe are increasingly requiring chip & pin cards.
