Half O/T:

On my last TATL (747 LAX-LHR) the average speed (incl. tailwind, according to IFE) was over 1100km/h (one of those occasions where the Pilot made up for being late... without announcement but IMHO).

I didn't even know that a 747 was capable of doing this speed as this is pretty close (possibly over) Mach 1.

Is the "Airshow" / IFE just not precise, or was the Pilot really going "full throttle"? Also if so, wouldn't you normally expect the Pilot to go below 1000km/h for fuel saving / safety / comfort aspects?

Anyway, I was glad he did go fast, so we actually made up on time lost before and I didn't have to rush to my connection... :-)
