While I have had good luck in getting suite upgrades, sometimes it does feel like a battle. One memorable time I was almost denied at the LA Regency b/c the front desk manager told me that upgrades to suites were not allowed "to preserve the integrety of the suites." When I responded in a huff and suggested that he double check my diamond status, he was immediately apologetic and did upgrade me, though the suite there was nothing to write home about. For whatever reasons, there is often an attitude and reluctance to upgrade to suites, but push come to shove, my experience is management will respond. I guess it's up to Gold Passport management to decide if that's something they can live with or if they want to make the terms and conditions more generous.
