I really do like your take on things, my advise to you is, if you don't want to sit in jail while they determine if you indeed have a valid DL and you are who you say you are, and that your DL is not revoked or suspended, if I were you, I would make sure I drive with my DL on me at all times, or make sure I definitely don't get pulled over.
