Thanks for the feedback!

I've been upgraded to the Casitas at the Hyatt Dorado in Puerto Rico....opens right up onto the beach and your own backyard!

I was hoping that the GCs might have something similar...

$75/night for an upgrade?! Hmm... It wasn't possible to use points?

How are the regular rooms? Should I go for 'limited island' view or 'tennis court' view?

...just made reservations for april.

I was just at the HY Dorado last month, had a 2nd floor ocean front room. Loved it! I had a great view of the beach and water. Don't know if the 1st floor rooms have as good a view, but if you want to go out your sliding glass door onto the beach, that's the place. The HY GCM has nothing like that, so far as walking out onto the beach.

As for upgrading with points, I didn't have enough in the account at the time so I didn't even consider it. Mrs Bonzaiflyer said I had to pay the upgrade, since it was our 15th anniversary. If momma ain't happy, ain't anyone happy if you know what I mean!

As for the regular rooms, they're fine. Better than your typical business area HY, well appointed. Mrs loves the marble tubs, and the pool bar at the main hotel is pretty cool. If you ever saw the movie "The Firm" they used the pool bar in one of the scenes.

The main thing is, how much time do you really spend in the room when you're at a resort? For us, we get up, eat breakfast, hit the beach, wait for it to be noon somewhere, order beers, go to the head, get wet, order lunch, order more beers, turn over, go to the head, get wet, order more beers, go to the head......then when it starts raining or starts getting dark, go to the room, shower, go get dinner, go back to the room after dinner, do after dinner things .

Next day we dive, or lose some golf balls, or do tourist type things. When we're in GCM, we skip the tourist things since we've been there so often.

Stir and repeat for the duration of the stay.

I don't remember the name of the property, but on the other side of Georgetown, just past the big storage tanks for gasoline, there's a hotel that caters to divers. I mention this place as they have a great outdoor bar with a projection TV that they point at one of those storage tanks. I call it "tank-o-vision" and it's great to watch Monday Night Football where the screen is 20 foot wide!! We found it one night while on a search for the perfect Daquari.

Not sure where I'm going, but I'm getting there fast.
